Back in March 2016, photographer Reuben Wu visited the Crescent Dunes Solar Energy Facility in the Nevada desert and shot a series of photos showing the giant solar power mirrors covering the desert there.
Wired writes that the 10,347 mirrors each measure 37 feet wide and 24 feet tall. Covering an area of 1,670 acres, the mirrors direct the sun’s energy onto a tower, generating steam from molten salt and spinning turbines that help power 75,000 homes.
Wu first noticed the facility from the air on a flight from Chicago to San Francisco. Here’s what it looks like from above:
When he finally got a chance to visit the location on the ground, Wu brought along a Phase One 100XF camera to capture all the beautiful details without the sun in the sky.
