Virtual reality (VR) meetups have grown to become an essential part of both the development and enthusiast community over the past few years. Starting out over in the US, these events have slowly made their way to the UK and are currently held all over the country including cities like London, Brighton, Newcastle and Bristol among others. One city that’s yet to see its own VR meetup is Southampton, which sits along the south coast of England. That’s set to change early next year, however, with the help of VR marketing agency, Virtual Umbrella.

The inaugural Southampton VR Meetup will be taking place around the end of January 2016. A placeholder Meetup page is already in place, and Virtual Umbrella is looking to gather developers, agencies and companies that are interested in the tech with an interest in growing the VR industry in this region of the UK. Expect to see talks and demos about various areas of the VR industry from videogames to other opportunities.

Q1 2016 itself is going to be an immensely exciting time for the VR industry, as anticipated head-mounted displays (HMDs) such as the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive will finally be launching for consumers.

VRFocus will continue to follow any and all VR events, reporting back with the latest updates on them.
