Cyan, Inc., developers of the forthcoming Obduction, are one of the first studios to announce support for two technologies recently announced by NVIDIA in an effort to aid the development of virtual reality. Obduction will support both Simultaneous Multi-Projection (SMP) and Ansel technologies upon launch.

SMP is a technology that allows for graphics cards to project an image to up to 16 different displays and more than one viewport simultaneously. Essentially, in working with Single-Pass Stereo, this allows for one set of geometry to be sent to two eyes rather than drawing the same image twice for each eye. This pushes less draw calls to the GPU, lessening the demand on the hardware.

Ansel is an in-game photography application that allows for very high resolution 360 degree image spheres to be captured. These image spheres can then be viewed via a VR head-mounted display (HMD) with the use of NVIDIA’s own Ansel app.

Obduction itself is an adventure videogame currently in development for Windows PC and Mac, with the former offering support for the Oculus Rift. While it was originally believed that the VR edition would follow the initial PC launch, VRFocus has since learned that Cyan intend on launching Obduction with Oculus Rift support as standard.
