The first virtual reality (VR) title from Insomniac Games – the studio behind Sunset Overdrive, Ratchet & Clank series – Edge of Nowhere has now launched. Supporting the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD) and available through Oculus Home, Edge of Nowhere is a psychological horror videogame set in Antarctica.

Viewed in third-person players take on the role of Victor Howard, who goes on a rescue mission to Antarctica. He’s looking for his fiancé, Ava Thorne who’s part of an expedition led by Captain Simon Edwards. His large crew of biologists, researchers and seamen have disappeared and while looking for them Howard finds that their disappearance is due to an alien race. What follows is a journey into a surreal world that will test your wits and sanity. Players will scale towering mountains and use makeshift weapons to survive and avoid descending into madness.

While this maybe the first VR videogame produced by Insomniac Games it won’t be the latest. A couple of months ago VRFocus reported on the studio revealing two further VR related projects for the Oculus Rift headset. Exclusive to the HMD the new titles are  The Unspoken and Feral Rites.

The Unspoken puts players into a magic fight club based in Chicago. Here you’ll have to work your way through the ranks by progressing in PvP battles. While Feral Rites goes for something different again as it, “combines the feel of adventure of Zelda with the brutal combat of God of War,” the studio explains.

Both titles are due to launch later this year with The Unspoken due Holiday 2016, while Feral Rites will be available Fall 2016.

With three Oculus Rift projects all coming out in one year Insomniac Games is certainly putting significant effort into just one HMD. As further details are released on the upcoming videogames VRFocus will bring you the latest updates.
