ARK: Survival Evolved has the potential to be one of virtual reality’s (VR’s) biggest videogames, though it has some technical challenges and optimisations to overcome before it can officially support consumer versions of the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and PlayStation VR head-mounted displays (HMDs). It may well be that developer Studio Wildcard also has to overcome some legal issues in the near future if it is to continue work on the anticipated survival title, which is now available in pre-release form on both PC and Xbox One.
As reported by Kotaku, Dungeon Defenders developers Trendy Entertainment is suing the Bellevue, Washington-based studio over one of its former employees, designer Jeremy Stieglitz. Treny Entertainment is claiming that Stieglitz us working in secret on ARK: Survival Evolved, breaching a contract not to compete with his former employer after leaving. The studio also states that Stieglitz attempted to bring other Trendy Entertainment employees over to Studio Wildcard.
The case is set to go to court on 27th April 2016. Potential success on Trendy Entertainment’s part could mean that sales of and work on ARK: Survival Evolved is put on hold, though a settlement could also be reached.
