Oculus VR hasn’t revealed figures for the amount of pre-orders it has received for its upcoming virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD), the Oculus Rift, thus far. All the same, the company has repeatedly stated that it’s happy with those figures and, with 1.9 million views on launch day and pre-orders now backdated all the way from March 2016 to July, it’s likely to be an impressive sum. It certainly looks to have been enough to please Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of parent company and social networking giant, Facebook.

Zuckerberg said as much during Facebook’s latest earnings report on Wednesday, in which the company reported some $1.6 billion USD in profit for the final three months of 2015. He declined to give specifics on the performance of the Oculus Rift pre-order campaign but, when asked about its progress and if he was happy with it, he replied: “Yes I am happy. I don’t show much joy, but I’m happy.” Zuckerberg also labelled the launch as an ‘important step’ towards the future, but didn’t offer much more of a glimpse into that future. Sales data for Oculus VR’s other HMD, the Gear VR, was also absent, though it may be down to co-creator Samsung to reveal this information.

The Oculus Rift’s first shipping will be taking place on 28th March and will come to those that got their pre-orders in first when the campaign launched on 6th January and those that purchased the device’s first development kit (DK1) through the company’s historic Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign all the way back in 2012. Those backers will be getting the kit for free, while it’s priced at $599 for everyone else. Every unit sold comes with a copy of Lucky’s Tale, an Xbox One controller and the Oculus Remote, while all Kickstarter and pre-ordered units will also get EVE: Valkyrie.
