World Rally Championship (WRC) is a racing videogame franchise that’s been going strong since 2001 and Bigben Interactive and its newest developer Kylotonn Racing Games have brought the latest title, WRC 6, to this year’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles to show that there’s no sign of the series slowing down any time soon.

WRC 6 was announced in May 2016 and scheduled for an Autumn release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC/Steam but most excitingly this is also going to be the first title on the series that will be supported on virtual reality (VR). It was revealed that the title would support PC VR and launch on Oculus Rift. However, VRFocus has also discovered at E3 that the title will also come to PlayStation VR a few months after its launch. The developer also said it was thinking about doing a special VR edition for PSVR, though there was no mention of whether this would be a physical or purely digital release. The developer said, too, that they might consider adding HTC Vive support to the PC version of the game, depending on how well the Oculus Rift performs sales wise.

When WRC 6 was announced developer Kylotonn Racing Games said that it had taken on board fan feedback from its first contribution to the franchise, WRC 5, to improve the 2016 version of the game and achieve new levels of realism and excitement.

“We spent the last 8 months, since the release of WRC 5, collecting and studying all the feedback from the community to improve the experience and take it to a new level” said Alain Jarniou, Game Director at Kylotonn. “The experience gained from WRC 5 helped the team to completely understand the expectations of racing fans when it comes to rallying. Roads were too wide in WRC 5? They will be narrower and more bumpy in WRC 6. Stages were sometimes too short? We created new longer stages and reworked everything to make them longer and more challenging. These are just a few examples of the massive improvements we are bringing to WRC 6 and we already know that players will definitely appreciate these changes.”

VRFocus will continue to follow WRC 6 news and report back with any developments.
