Most start-ups in this industry are funded by the audience who wants the project to be created, such as on Kickstarter or Indiegogo, but recently Virgin Media as well as figures from Facebook and Twitter have opened up opportunities for businesses to receive mentoring from them, founded by Britain’s billionaire entrepreneur, Richard Branson. The WizDish is one of the 10 businesses chosen by the Virgin Media Accelerator, powered by Techstars.

The WizDish, along with the other nine companies to be accepted in this opportunity, has been invited to be part of classes to work alongside Virgin Media in bettering its startup potential by pitching to investors for further funding. Each company will have the opportunity to receive up to £78,000 GBP to help the budding projects.

Julian Williams, CEO of WizDish Ltd, told VRFocus he believed, “The judges were really impressed by the fact we invented this concept and have the patent to prove it” and went on to say “The accelerator will be such a boost”.

Ryan Kuder, Managing Director, Virgin Media Accelerator, said in a blog post today: “We’re excited about the potential these companies and founders have to become industry leaders. By leveraging the expertise, mentorship and resources that Virgin Media and Techstars have to offer, we are anticipating big things to come!”
