If you want to take a break from playing virtual reality (VR) videogames on your Oculus Rift, there is plenty of 360-degree video content available. There’s several apps to chose from to find content, Oculus Video, Jaunt VR and now Vrideo.
As with other 360-degree video services Vrideo can stream, show trending and recommended videos, list content by category and search functionality. Users will be able to create their own account to subscribe to channels, like and dislike videos, and create playlists of your favourites. Any of the videos can also be downloaded to view offline.
The Oculus Rift is one of the last head-mounted displays (HMDs) to get support for Vrideo, with the app launching on HTC Vive via Steam in early April. Samsung’s Gear VR got it back in September 2015, with Android and iOS support landing n November 2015 for HMDs like Google Cardboard.
It’s free to download through Oculus Home with support for a wide range of controllers, including keyboard and mouse, gamepads, Oculus Remote and the as yet unreleased Oculus Touch positional-tracked controllers.
