Theme parks are already utilising the buzz around virtual reality (VR) to draw crowds onto the latest rides. Alton Towers in the UK has Galactica which was announced in January 2016 and Montreal, Canada-based La Ronde has the New Revolution VR Coaster. La Ronde is part of Six Flags Entertainment Corporation and the company has announced plans today for a new park located in Dubai.

Six Flags Dubai is scheduled to open in late 2019, featuring 27 rides and attractions. These will include rollercoasters, water slides, a next generation 4-D interactive dark ride and VR experiences. What type of VR rides will be available isn’t currently known, but with other theme parks mixing rollercoasters and VR headsets it’s likely to be something similar.

“Through this collaborative partnership with Dubai Parks and Resorts, we are excited to bring innovation, entertainment and unmatched thrills to the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC),” said John Odum President of Six Flags International Development Co. “As the largest regional theme park company in the world, we are dedicated to showcasing Six Flags Dubai as a world-class, one-of-a-kind theme park.”

The park will feature a fully air-conditioned, state-of-the-art promenade as the main entrance and exit. Inside it’ll offer a VIP mezzanine, space for events, along with retail and food locations including a signature bakery and deli. As visitors wander through they’ll have access to three attractions from inside and the park’s signature roller coaster will encircle the entire promenade.

VRFocus will continue to bring you the latest advancements in VR theme parks rides as details are released.
