The HTC Vive blog has announced today that the price for the head-mounted display (HMD) is going to increase from next month.
Currently for UK-based customers who want to purchase a HTC Vive through the dedicated website you’ll pay £689 GBP plus an additional shipping cost of £56.69. But from 1st August there will be an additional £70 added on top.
The posting states: “HTC continuously monitors and adjusts pricing to ensure we are providing our customers with the best value possible. Due to recent currency valuation changes and the current value of the GBP we are adjusting the price of the HTC Vive in the UK to £759 + P&P. The adjustment will come into effect on Monday 1st August.
“We are committed to providing the best possible VR experience with Vive and would like to thank our UK customers and partners for their continued support.”
To put that into perspective for US customers who pay $799 USD plus shipping, £759 currently equates to approximately $1005, which is shows the significance of how currency fluctuations can affect product prices.
This is all likely down to the recent Brexit vote in the UK, where the public voted to leave the European Union. This drastically affected markets with the British Pound losing significant value shortly after the vote, although it has since marginally climbed.
If your based in the UK and have been pondering whether to but a HTC Vive then now might be the time, as there’s only two days left until the price hike. At the moment no other country seems to be affected.
