Stanley Kubrick is one of the most famous directors known in the film industry, with titles such as Stephen King’s The Shining, and Anthony Burgess’s A Clockwork Orange. Now Happy Finish has teamed up with Norbert Shoerner to create a 360-degree experience to celebrate the director in the Daydreaming With Stankley Kubrick exhibition – although this incidentally has nothing to do with Google Daydream.

This experience is based on Kubrick’s piece, 2001: A Space Odyssey, where users are invited to a scene and live it as if they were in the film. The specific scene that users will be able to step into is the one where Dr. Francis Poole runs vertically through the circular centrifugal space of Discovery One made perfect sense.

Happy Finish CG artist, Martin Ocheng, shared in a press release how he recreated the scene: “After studying the video footage of the centrifuge scene I started creating the environments and later focused on the lighting and textures. The whole process went quite smoothly, but the main challenge was to find enough information from the original images to accurately recreate all angles with as much detail as possible.”

Norbert Schoerner, photographer and co-creator of the experience, also said in the press release: “This is the fourth project I have created in my ongoing relationship with Happy Finish and yet again they have exceeded my expectations with an experience to help me celebrate this iconic filmmaker at Somerset House. The creative team at Happy Finish was an integral part of the process and keep pushing the boundaries of new technologies.”

The 360-degree installation will be part of the Somerset House Exhibition, Daydreaming With Stanley Kubrick, which will be on display until 24th August in Somerset House, London.
