The consumer launch of virtual reality (VR) technology is nearly here. As such, it’s almost time for companies to start talking about the content line-ups for the launches of their respective head-mounted displays (HMDs). While Oculus VR has started showcasing launch window content for the Oculus Rift, Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE) has remained largely silent on what videogames will support the launch of the PlayStation VR HMD on PlayStation 4. Rest assured, though, that the company will have a ‘good suite’ of a ‘wide variety’ of titles for the device.

That is according to PlayStation Magic Lab Director Richard Marks. He said as much in a recent interview with Tom’s Hardware. “We’re really focused on games, so at the launch we’ll have a good suite of games,” Marks explained. “And that will probably be a wide variety of games. So we have some puzzle games, we have like an action game like [London Heist], we’ll probably have some form of a racing kind of title. I mean, we like to have a good breadth for a platform so that something will appeal to everybody. And I think we really do feel like interactivity is a key element of entertaining VR gaming.”

PlayStation VR is set to launch in the first half of 2016, though SCE is yet to nail down a specific date or price. The device was recently renamed from its working title, Project Morpheus, which it had been introduced as all the way back in March 2014. A handful of third-party developers have already confirmed that they’re aiming to launch alongside the device itself, although it’s not yet clear when first-party efforts such as Guerrilla Cambridge’s RIGS: Mechanised Combat League will be releasing.

VRFocus will continue to follow PlayStation VR closely, reporting back with the latest updates on the device.
