There were plenty of new announcements for Sony Computer Entertainment’s (SCE’s) PlayStation VR virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD) this week. During the company’s Paris Games Week (PGW) press conference it revealed that new titles such as Gran Turismo Sport and Tekken 7 are heading to the device in the future. For those that are looking to find out a little bit more about the device, a huge new talk on PlayStation VR has recently been posted online, taken from Unity Technologies’ Unity 2015 Boston event.

The half-hour talk, seen below see SCE America’s Ram Madhavan hosted a talk named ‘Embrace Virtual Reality with PlayStation VR’. Madhavan, who works as part of the Developer Services and Support team at the company, provides an overview of the device and how those developing videogames with Unity 5.2 can take advantage of it.

PlayStation VR is set to launch in the first half of 2016, though a specific date and price for the device are yet to be announced. The kit boasts a 5.7-inch, 1080p OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate that’s capable of ‘reprojecting’ titles that are running in 60fps natively to 120fps in-HMD. It also uses 360 degree positional tracking with the help of 9 LEDs that are tracked with the PlayStation Camera and provides a 100 degree field of view (FOV) with head-tracking latency recorded at under 18ms.

VRFocus will continue to follow PlayStation VR closely, reporting back with the latest updates on its progress.
