Virtual reality (VR) isn’t just a new way for gamers to immerse themselves in virtual worlds, it also seems to be bringing back a world that had effectively died out. Videogame arcades used to be a big thing back in the 80’s and early 90’s, but with the rise of home consoles fewer people went to them. Now it seems VR could be bringing the old arcades back, thanks to head-mounted displays (HMDs) like Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.  Immersion Arcade and IVirtex have opened up in Illinois, NotionVR in Washinton D.C. and now Scene75 Entertainment Center is launching a VR arcade in Ohio, US.

Scene75 Entertainment Center – Dayton is scheduled to open its VR facility this Friday 12th August, 2016. The company has been remodelling and transforming one of its Chaos Rooms into a dedicated VR room. It’ll feature ten VR stations with each station equipped with a HTC Vive. Players will have a 9ft x 12ft gaming area in which to move around in.

“It is an experience like no other! After playing virtual reality for the first time I instantly believed that it would be the next big thing. It was just a question of how are we going create an opportunity for people to experience VR at Scene75.” – Eric Stammen, Technical Manager for Scene75 Entertainment Centers

The arcade will offer three different timed sessions. A 10-minute gameplay session for $6 USD, a 30-minute gameplay session for $15, and a 60-minute gameplay session for $24.

There will be 15 different videogames and experiences for players to choose from, although the centre hasn’t stated which titles will be available. The game list will includes a variety of genres such as: Action; Adventure; Art & Design; Educational; Music; Puzzle; Shooters; Simulators and Sports, four of which will be online multiplayer games.
