Back at the beginning of 2015 it was announced that Samsung had partnered with Robert Kirkman’s entertainment company, Skybound Entertainment, which is known for the popular The Walking Dead franchise. The pair revealed a partnership to produce a new 360 degree video series that would debut on Samsung’s own Gear VR mobile-based virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD). Later on that series was revealed to be called GONE, and now the first teaser trailer for it has surfaced online. That trailer can currently be seen below.

Created by author, writer and director JT Petty, GONE tells the story of a mother named Meredith Clover in search of her lost daughter, Emilia Clover. In this brief teaser – which simulates the 360 degree effect rather than giving the viewer control over it – viewers will see Emilia herself disappear. In the series itself they will then follow Meredith as she tries to solve several clues, including secrets that Emilia herself is keeping. Viewers will be able to view scenes from multiple angles, using the Gear VR to look around an environment as if they were actually there.

The series is in production at VR video studio, WEVR. It is heading to Samsung’s own 360 degree streaming video app, Milk VR, which is already available on the Gear VR, though a date for the launch is yet to be revealed. The consumer version of the Gear VR itself was launched in the US last week and is expected to hit other territories in the near future. The device works with Samsung’s 2015 line-up of smartphones including the flagship Galaxy S6, the curved Galaxy S6 edge, the enlarged Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy S6 edge plus.

VRFocus will continue to follow GONE and all other content for Gear VR, reporting back with the latest updates from the kit.
