Last summer a new virtual reality (VR) online store open called RiftCat. Created as a place where users can find new VR titles and manage their existing ones the marketplace has been building its library of titles since then. Now the creators of RiftCat have revealed a new service called VRidge, allowing users to play high-end VR games with budget VR headsets on their smartphones.
Rather than buying expensive VR head-mounted displays (HMDs) like Oculus Rift or HTC Vive, videogames purchased on RiftCat can then be streamed to a smartphone so people can use headsets like Google Cardboard, Merge VR, Zeiss VR One or any other similar designs.
VRidge is currently in beta testing and for those that want to try it out before launch the software is free to download from here. Once the beta testing is complete, VRidge will launch worldwide with a price of $9.99 USD as a one off payment. As well as the PC software needed there is also an accompanying Android app to make the service work. Currently there isn’t an iOS version but the developers are planning on making one soon.
