New Gear VR Available to Pre-Order on Amazon

At the start of the month Samsung held its Galaxy Unpacked event in New York City, unveiled the long expected Galaxy Note7. The company also announced a updated version of the Gear VR head-mounted display (HMD) which had been rumoured due to the new smartphone’s USB Type-C connection. The launch of the new headset is due to happen next week, but for those who’ve ordered the Galaxy Note7 and want to get the new Gear VR, it’s now available to pre-order from Amazon.

The HMD has appeared on the retailers US site, with a price of $99.99 USD, the same as the original model which is now down in price to $77.47. The new version is compatible with all the latest Samsung smartphones: Galaxy Note7, Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge, Galaxy Note5, Galaxy S6 edge+, Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge. The device comes with a MicroUSB adaptor for the S6,S7 and Note5 models.

Aesthetically the new version hasn’t changed that much. Most notable is the striking colour change, doing away with the white body. On the right hand side the touch pad is now flat – similar to the Innovators Edition – rather than featuring indents for your fingers. And just above the touch pad an extra button has been added, this being a dedicated ‘Home’ button alongside the ‘Back’ button.

The new Gear VR is scheduled to launch on Friday, 19th August for virtual reality (VR) fans upgrading to the last Samsung device.
