New Elite Dangerous: Horizons Clip Showcases New Vehicles

A brand new season of content for Frontier Developments’ popular space simulation title, Elite Dangerous, is on the way in the form of Elite Dangerous: Horizons. Beta testing for the experience is due to start later this month but, until its arrival, the developer’s David Braben has been teasing some of the new features fans can expect to see in a series of videos. The latest clip showcases some of the new vehicles players will encounter, and can now be seen below.

This short, in-cockpit look at the update should give players a good sense of what it will be like to tackle the update’s new planetary landings with a virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD). It showcases the Imperial Cutter, which appears to zoom around the planet’s surface with little trouble. Towards the end of the clip a fortified starport can also be seen for the first time.

In terms of VR support, Elite Dangerous is currently awaiting a free update that will integrate the HTC Vive HMD into the title. Support for the Oculus Rift HMD is currently backlogged to an older software development kit (SDK) as the team waits for the arrival of the first full production SDK, 1.0, which will be supported when the consumer version of the device releases in Q1 2016.

VRFocus will continue to follow Elite Dangerous and Elite Dangerous: Horizons closely, reporting back with the latest updates on the title’s progress.
