The annual Lollapalooza music festival beings later this week, celebrating its 25th anniversary. The event features alternative rock, heavy metal, punk rock, hip hop, EDM bands and artists, dance, comedy performances, and thanks to official partner Samsung virtual reality (VR) as well.
As part of the festival Samsung will be offering immersive experiences, VIP access for Samsung Galaxy owners and more.
First is the VR-Palooza, an interactive VR experience where festival-goers can live-stream musical performances from the Samsung Stage on Gear VR, go VR surfing, skateboarding and fly in a hot air balloon. There will also be a Samsung Pay vending machine that’ll reward users with a chance to win upgrades and perks to the festival experience, such as festival gear and Samsung products.
For the VIP experience Samsung Galaxy owners will be able to go to the Galaxy Lounge which will include pop-up performances, surprise appearances and meet and greets.
“Lollapalooza is an excellent opportunity for us to connect fans to their favourite music using our mobile and VR technology,” said Marc Mathieu, chief marketing officer at Samsung Electronics America. “We are thrilled to partner with the festival in this unique way, delivering new possibilities in content creation and content consumption through Samsung products, and allowing fans to have a deeper connection to our brand.”
Samsung will also be offering a limited quantity of Gear 360 cameras to purchase on site for $349.99 USD should attendees want to capture the festival in 360-degrees. The device hasn’t yet widely launched across the US yet so it could be a good chance to pick one up early.
And just in case you can’t attend Lollapalooza in Chicago, Samsung 837 will be hosting an event in New York City with a performance by Years & Years on Thursday, 28th July. The evening will feature Chicago-inspired food, VR content looking at the history of Lollapalooza, as well as streams of the performances being held on the Samsung Stage at the festival.
