MushroomBallVR, a first and third-person VR platformer by developer VitruviusVR has now launched its Kickstarter crowd funding campaign. VRFocus reported in October that VitruviusVR would be seeking funding support for its virtual reality (VR) title, which supports the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD) and the Virtuix Omni, an omni-directional treadmill.

The campaign which started today, seeks to raise $10,000 CAD in the next 30 days to help fund the project. In MushroomBallVR players are housed in a ball, collecting mushrooms and coins as they go. The videogame is split into three modes, Race, Explore and Multiplayer. In Race the task is to finish each level as quickly as possible, but care must be taken when collecting mushrooms as some have unexpected effects. Some mushrooms will allowing the character to move faster, slower, grow bigger, smaller and even fly you up into the air. In Explore mode players need to find the pages of a magical book that help protect the mushroom kingdom. While the multiplayer mode will feature mini games, pitting players against each other in various challenges.

There is also a store manned by a character named Merlyn, where players can spend collected coins to buy potions that will grant extra abilities. Currently there are four abilities, allowing players to fly into the air, invincibility, freeze time, and even place mark a spot in the game if you fall, all helping to achieve a leaderboard score.

VRFocus will continue to follow the progress of MushroomballVR as its Kickstarter campaign continues.
