Icelandic-based developer CCP Games, which also has a studio in Newcastle Upon Tyne, UK has recently announced it’s looking to hire a senior VFX artist to join its team. The studio behind online space simulator EVE: Online, needs the applicant for its virtual reality (VR) space shooter EVE: Valkyrie, which has been the poster child for VR videogames since its announcement.

CCP is looking to add a highly creative industry experienced VFX Artist to its team in Newcastle. Responsibilities for the post include, all VFX, Explosions, Weapon VFX, Environment VFX such as lighting/solar flares, gas clouds and HUD FX to name a few.

For a senior position like this, on such a high profile title the studio requires someone with industry standard software experience with a variety of packages such as Photoshop, Max/Maya. The ability to create AAA standard quality VFX working within visual guidelines defined by art direction and within its performance guidelines. A minimum of 2 years+ experience of working on AAA console and/or PC titles in a VFX role. The job description doesn’t state if the role is a temporary contract or full time position, but it’s common in the videogame industry to hire more staff towards the end of a titles development to help prepare it for release. EVE: Valkyrie will support the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD) and Sony Computer Entertainments (SCE) PlayStation VR. The videogame is due to be a launch title for both HMDs, but the Oculus Rift will be on sale first as its due in Q1 2016.
