It was back in March this year when Phosphor Games listed its horror-based first-person shooter The Brookhaven Experiment on Steam. The Steam page allowed a demo to be downloaded prior to the launch of the HTC Vive head-mounted display (HMD), as well as pre-ordering the title with a 25 percent discount. The Brookhaven Experiment was then supposed to arrive towards the end of April but that date has kept on slipping and slipping. Today though, all those eager HTC Vive owners that had a brief glimpse at what lay in-store can now be happy the wait is over.

The Brookhaven Experiment is a wave-based shooter where hordes of evil creatures attack players from every direction. Armed with a pistol and torch, there’s a multitude of different enemies to face as you try to survive.

Phosphor Games has gone with over-the-top weaponry and masses of guns. The  only gun that’s been revealed has been the pistol. And the studio has aimed to make it as realistic as possible, not only in terms of aesthetics but also aiming and firing. There’s a weapon/item upgrade system available that will add options such as a laser sight and alternate ammunition, while the flashlight can be juiced up with extra batteries.

Last month the developer revealed a deal with Chinese company Shunwang, which runs 100,000 gaming iCafes throughout the country. The agreement would see The Brookhaven Experiment installed in special VR zones, a first for a US company.

VRFocus will continue its coverage of The Brookhaven Experiment, reporting back with any new updates.
