The news from HTC concerning their forthcoming virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD), Vive, keeps coming. Along with the announcement of a price point and bundle package, HTC has now revealed the official recommended PC specifications for the device.

The recommended PC specifications for the HTC Vive come very close to that of the Oculus Rift, with recommended GPU and CPU ranking exactly in parallel. However, HTC are advising a lower entry requirement for RAM, HDMI and USB specifications. The full details, provided by HTC, are as follows:

GPU: – NVIDIA GeForce® GTX 970 / AMD Radeon™ R9 290 equivalent or greater CPU: – Intel® i5-4590 / AMD FX 8350 equivalent or greater    RAM: – 4GB+ Video Output: – HDMI 1.4 or DisplayPort 1.2 or newer USB Port: – 1x USB 2.0 or greater port Operating System: – Windows 7 SP1 or newer

According to HTC’s J.B. McRee, Senior Manager of Product Marketing, these specifications will allow for a ‘premium’ VR experience. VRFocus will of course keep you updated with exactly what that entails as the HTC Vive approaches launch.
