Giving Tuesday Campaign to Feature VR App

It’s starting to become slightly more common place now for marketing agencies to utilise virtual reality (VR) technology for big brands looking to attract a wider, younger audience. But charities have yet to jump on the tech band wagon, until now. Easter Seals a charity that raises funds for children and adults with disabilities is partnering with CrowdRise, a crowdfunding platform, for its second annual Giving Tuesday campaign. As part of the campaign a VR app will be available that will feature a tower inside a virtual city which grows brick by brick as donations are made.

Taking place in the holiday season Giving Tuesday takes place after Black Friday and Cyber Monday are over. As one of eight founding partner charities, Easter Seals hopes to raise $15,000 in donations.

“Easter Seals provides services, education, outreach and advocacy, so that people living with autism spectrum disorder and other disabilities excel right where they are. We encourage and welcome the giving public to become part of the Giving Tower by donating to Easter Seals and helping people with all abilities live, learn, work and play in their communities,” said Easter Seals president and CEO Randy Rutta in a statement.

In 2014 the Giving Tower grew to a 2,514 feet, and raised more than $4 million USD for participating organizations. “This year, we’re making the campaign way bigger and embracing the coolest, most innovative technology the charity space has ever seen,” said Robert Wolfe, CrowdRise co-founder and CEO. And as an added incentive, the charity that manages to raise the most in the CrowdRise Giving Tower on Giving Tuesday from 12am ET through 11:59:59 p.m. ET on 1st December 2015 will receive a $25,000 USD donation to their cause.

The app is available for iOS and Android devices and can be paired with headsets like Google Cardboard or Merge VR for an immersive experience. VRFocus will continue to follow all the latest news, reporting back with the latest VR announcements.
