Virtual reality (VR) fans will likely know that Poland-based developer The Farm 51 is already working with the technology. The studio is working on an upcoming first-person shooter (FPS) named Get Even that will be supporting the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD) on PC as well as the PlayStation VR kit on PlayStation 4. Today, however, The Farm 51 is announcing a brand new VR project that’s marks the 30th anniversary of one of the biggest human disasters in history: the Chernobyl nuclear power plant catastrophe. The title is simple named the Chernobyl VR Project.

The first trailer for the experience can now be seen below. The Farm 51 describes it as a VR adventure in which players will control a documentary crew that travels to the site of the incident in search of secrets surrounding the event. The title is set to feature accurate recreations of areas in both Chernobyl and the now abandoned city of Pripyat in which players can explore the Restricted Zone and more. It’s set to arrive on a number of VR platforms including the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, PlayStation VR, and Gear VR.

The experience is being developed using the team’s new Reality 51 technology that it has been teasing throughout 2015. This toolset mixes ‘state-of-the-art’ 3D scanning solutions, VR compatibility and a number of development engines to create what the developer claims to be photorealistic environments for players to explore. The Farm 51 was even granted access to areas unavailable to tourists to scan and capture in as fine a detail as possible. As such, players will be able to experience realistic representations of areas for the very first time.

The first look at the title provides commentary from The Farm 51 itself. The 30th anniversary of the disaster will be marked towards the end of April 2016, so expect to see this experience release around that time. Keep reading VRFocus for the latest on the Chernobyl VR Project.
