Former Microsoft Devs Form New MR Studio, Partner with Young Conker Dev

With Microsoft’s HoloLens mixed reality (MR) head-mounted display (HMD) now being sent out to US and Canadian developers, interest in the device and MR as a whole is steadily growing. To that end, this month has seen the formation of a brand new MR studio that’s founded by a pair of Microsoft veterans. Sébastien Motte and John Howard, formerly of Microsoft’s Xbox division, have formed LOOOK, based in Seattle, Washington. In fact, the team has already partnered with the developer of some of HoloLens’ most prolific content.

According to Games Industry, LOOOK has formed a new ‘strategic development partnership’ with Asobo Studio, the team that recently released Young Conker for HoloLens. Howard joined Microsoft in 1999 and worked at lead game designer on Halo: Combat Evolved, Crimson Skies and other titles. He joins LOOOK at creative director. Motte, meanwhile, worked at Microsoft Game Studios from 1997 to 2003 before becoming Xbox’s head of first-party business development. He’s LOOOK’s CEO. The developer hasn’t yet announced its first projects.

“Asobo Studio has been at the forefront of HoloLens development from the beginning.” said Howard in a statement about the company’s partnership. “New technologies have a learning curve, and our early involvement with HoloLens has given us [a] years-long head start in the creation of meaningful holographic applications.”
