CCP Games is not a developer that has typically adopted traditional videogame sales models. Its ever-popular massively multiplayer online (MMO) experience, EVE Online, still holds tightly to the subscription model in a market that has otherwise quickly adopted free-to-play. Meanwhile Dust 514, its online first-person shooter (FPS) for the PlayStation 3, fully embraced the latter model with microtransactions. This has led to some speculation as to just how CCP Games’ upcoming virtual reality (VR) title, EVE: Valkyrie, will charge players.
CCP Games still hasn’t revealed this info, but has at least confirmed what platform it will be using to manage the monetization of the title. EVE: Valkyrie will be the first of CCP Games’ titles to be using Aria Systems’ Active Monetization Platform when it launches next year. It’s not clear exactly how the developer will utilise the system for its upcoming title, which is set to support the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD) on PC and PlayStation VR HMD on PlayStation VR. Aria Systems’ other client include the likes of Roku, Adobe, Audi and Dell.

Sign ups for EVE: Valkyrie‘s pre-alpha testing opened earlier this month. It’s not clear if the title will also eventually be supporting the HTC Vive HMD on PC. VRFocus will continue to follow the experience closely, reporting back with the latest updates on its progress.
