Space is a popular destination for virtual reality (VR) experiences for obvious reasons. VR technology gives just about anyone the opportunity to leave the planet without the years of training needed to do so in real life. Poland-based SETAPP is the latest developer to explore this potential with a new title named Escape Velocity, which is heading to the Gear VR mobile-based head-mounted display (HMD). This week has seen the first trailer for the upcoming videogame launch, which can now be seen below.

A short clip of this intriguing VR adventure is on offer and is particularly impressive given that it’s running on a Gear VR as opposed to a PC-based HMD such as the Oculus Rift.

An official description for the title reads: “In 2038 space missions are a routine thing. You are sent for standard maintenance mission to ISS – now partially decomissioned, autonomous station. How hard can it be? Unfortunately, not everything goes as planned. You’ll have to use the knowledge from your astronaut training that you hoped won’t ever be needed and engage in spacewalk that you didn’t anticipate.”

Escape Velocity is due to hit Gear VR next month. VRFocus will continue to follow the title closely, reporting back with the latest updates on its progress.
