Musician Deadmau5 has become famous for more than his chart success. The artist’s live shows have been deemed as integral to his success, with 2010’s ‘The Cube’ dance stage having received significant praise from fans and music press alike. Now, it appears that the artist, Joel Thomas Zimmerman, aims to bring The Cube back with the help of virtual reality (VR).

Currently designing a new stage set-up in Unreal Engine 4, Zimmerman revealed via Twitter that plans to bring The Cube back for an upcoming tour were going well. Furthermore, Zimmerman’s Instagram account revealed a prototype for the design compatible with VR head-mounted displays (HMDs).

Keen observers will have noticed the Oculus Home application running underneath Zimmerman’s prototype design, suggesting that his work is being conducted using the consumer edition of the Oculus Rift.

While Zimmerman’s work has been showcased in VR it was specifically noted that this reimagination of The Cube is currently only at a prototype stage. However, in response to a fan, Zimmerman did openly state that the potential for watching his performances in VR was most certainly a consideration.

Zimmerman has offered many examples of his work via Twitter, though has not yet confirmed when any of this will be consolidated into a product and/or performance. As ever, VRFocus will keep you updated with all the latest details.
