Epic Games the studio behind Unreal Engine hosted a day of mobile development talks at Github’s headquarters, San Francisco. At the event which was livestreamed, was a talk from CCP Shanghai entitled ‘Making of EVE Gunjack, A Mobile VR Experience’. Presented by Ray Tran, Technical Director, and Zhou Lin, Senior Technical Artist, they offered a unique look into the development of Gunjack. Early on in the discussion Tran confirmed that Gunjack would be available when Samsung’s consumer version of the Gear VR launches later this month.

Previously CCP Games hasn’t mention a release date but the title was widely expected to be arriving around the same time as the mobile head-mounted display (HMD). A specific launch date for the consumer Gear VR is yet to be announced, although Samsung has confirmed it will be out before Black Friday on 27th November in the US, and shortly afterwards in other territories. The device will be priced at $99 USD and will work with all of Samsung’s top of the range 2015 smartphones.

Set in the EVE Online science-fiction universe and built exclusively for virtual reality (VR), Gunjack is a fast-paced arcade shooting experience in which the player has to fight through waves of enemy ships. The title features weapon powerups as the enemies increase in number and in scale.

VRFocus will continue to follow the latest updates from CCP Games on Gunjack in the run up to its release.
