The Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles begins this week, but before the show officially opens several press conferences hosted by the major videogame publishers and manufacturers have to take place first. Electronic Arts (EA), Bethesda, Ubisoft and Microsoft have all had theirs and last up on June 13 is Sony Interactive Entertainment. Sony has revealed a whole host of exciting virtual reality (VR) titles that will be exclusive to Playstation VR (PSVR), and one of the most exciting announcements was Batman: Arkham VR by developer Rocksteady Studios.

The videogame was announced with a teaser trailer which gave very little away in terms of what the game will involve when it’s launched. What the trailer did show was a speech from villain The Joker in which there were lots of poignant and heavy handed references to illusions becoming the new reality and finding a mask that fits. Apparently when we do find one that fits we won’t ever have to take it off – an exciting but terrifying prospect for lovers of VR. There were also plenty of slow camera trails over Batman’s iconic costume which, though visually pleasing, did nothing to reveal how the game will actually look when it’s released 13 days after the PSVR headset on October 26.

Batman: Arkham VR will be one of several exciting titles released for Playstation VR after it launches on October 13 2016. Also announced alongside Batman: Arkham VR were Capcom’s Resident Evil 7 the atmospheric and frightening trailer for which revealed it wouldn’t be released until January 2017; first person space shooter Far Point; Star Wars: Battlefront; and a Final Fantasy XV VR experience.
