Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) has started its pre-Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) with a bang, jumping quickly into several virtual reality (VR) announcements for PlayStation VR. SIE has now revealed an official launch date as well as several newly announced titles heading to the head-mounted display (HMD). One of the biggest surprise announcements came in the form of Final Fantasy XV: VR Experience.

Developer Square Enix first teased support back in August 2015 when Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata revealed that it had tried to implement VR with the anticipated title. “We had tested out utilizing VR,” Tabata said. “At the time we were looking into it, we felt that it could potentially work as a passive experience for a portion of the game utilizing VR. We felt that it would potentially make sense for a segment, but in terms of the overall game in itself, the entire game, we didn’t feel that having that headset on for the entirety of the game and that experience would match what we were aiming for with XV.”

Now it has turned out VR and has worked although its wasn’t revealed if Final Fantasy XV has been ported to PlayStation VR, or if Final Fantasy XV: VR Experience has been built from the ground up for VR to make the best use of the technology.

Also announced today has been Resident Evil 7 and Farpoint. Farpoint is a first-person sci-fi shooter from Impulse Gear Studios, an indie developer that was founded in 2013. And one of Capcom’s biggest and most well known titles Resident Evil gets its seventh edition coming to both PlayStation VR and PlayStation 4, with an atmospheric trailer set in a crumbling, rotten apartment.
