Virtual reality (VR) is being used in a number of different ways by brands to connect with their customers. The technology is also being used by the media in a similar fashion. Today cars specialist Autoblog has announced the launch of a VR app which will showcase news stories and reviews in immersive 360-degree video.

The new app Autoblog VR launches with 10 videos available across a range of themes. There are 4 different categories to choose from, Automaker, Environment, Location and Host, with each one offering various immersive videos to select.

In Automaker for example the category then splits into the available experiences from selected car manufacturers. At present it features Bentley with the Continental GTC, Ferrari and its Electric 308, Ford’s Mustang Ecoboost, the Jeep Wrangler Trailcat, the 2016 McLaren 675LT and the Tesla Model S P90D.

Viewers can choose to view the videos in a number of different ways. If you have an internet connection you’ll be able to directly stream the 360-degree video, or choose to download it to watch later. When viewing, you can either watch any of the content without a head-mounted display (HMD), moving the smartphone around or swiping the screen to look around. Or for the best experience, activate the Google Cardboard mode, put your device in the headset and enjoy some VR car entertainment. Of course you will also be able to use other VR headsets that are compatible with current smartphones.

Autoblog VR is available to download for free on iOS and Android devices. More content will be added on a regular basis, and for all the latest updates on the app, keep reading VRFocus.
