In its third update for 2016, Studio Wildcard has unveiled a new creature and a new tool for players of ARK: Survival Evolved. Now survivors can find the gliding Terror Bird as well as the multi-use Grapple Hook for continuing their adventures.

Called Phorusrhacidae Rapidesultor or Terror Bird for short, is an aggressive but tameable creature capable of high-speed sprints and brief leaps. Whilst not a flying bird, its can perform short flight glides or leaps instead. Coming in at eight to 12 feet in height, its aggression makes it an excellent combat mount, especially when needed for scouting.

The Terror Bird has traits related to theropods such as Utahraptor, Carnotaurus, and Tyrannosaurus, though its attacks differ, as they are made up of lightning dashes and leaping slashes.

The Grappling Hook now gives players the ability to traverse the world in new ways, scaling cliffs or hitching a ride by attaching to a flying creature. The tool can also wrangle other players/prisoners, or even small creatures to drag along.

Those aren’t the only additions in the update either. New features include: Tribe Alliances, allowing small tribes to join together against larger ones. A fishing upgrade: Coelacanth Nutritia, known as Coel, are now different sizes, giving different amount of resources depending on the size. Fully localizable game text, giving players the option to crowd-source translation and dynamic fonts for any language without Modding/TC’s.
