It’s been a long road for Roto VR, an upcoming motorised chair system for use with virtual reality (VR) head-mounted displays (HMDs) and experiences. The concept sadly failed a Kickstarter campaign in early 2015, but returned towards the end of the year with news of an investment deal being secured and plans for a release in May 2016. Recently, the company has promised that a final date for the kit and its price will be revealed ‘soon’, while sign-ups for the upcoming pre-order campaign have also been launched.

A newsletter for the kit that was recently sent out reads: “We look forward to announcing our pricing and ship dates soon.  To be first in line, please complete the pre-order form on our website to ensure you don’t get pipped.” The pre-order form in question asks customers to state how many units of the kit they would be interested in purchasing, as well as what HMDs they plan to use with the device, with options such as mobile kits, the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and PlayStation VR all listed.

Of course, Roto VR is set to work with all of the devices listed above. The kit consists of a motorised compartment that will spin the chair the user is sitting on a full 360 degrees. Movement is operated with a panel that the user rests their feet on, and an attachment for cables prevents any wires used from getting tangled up. VRFocus tried the kit last year running on the Oculus Rift with Alien: Isolation and came away impressed with how it could enhance seated experiences. Roto VR itself will also offer a ‘Theme Park’ feature for players to use with the kit.
