Just as with virtual reality (VR), many of those working with early augmented reality (AR) technology need all the help they can get in terms of both finances and other resources. To that end, today sees the launch of Super Ventures, the first combined incubator and investment fund built with AR in mind. The firm’s aim will be to help accelerate the growth of start-ups working on tech that, in the company’s words, gives players super powers.

The company is making its debut with an inaugural $10 million USD fund and investing in others such as visual translation app, Waygo, and visual search engine, Fringefy. And unannounced company working on a system to crowd source visual data is also being backed.

“From startups to labs to communities, our team has been building the AR ecosystem for the past 20 years,” said Super Ventures Founder and GM, Ori Inbar. “Establishing an investment fund and incubator furthers our influence in the AR space by allowing us to invest in passionate entrepreneurs and incubate technologies that will become the foundation for the next wave of computing.”

Joining Inbar is Matt Miesnieks, Tom Emrich and Professor Mark Billinghurst.

“The next 12-18 months will be seen as the best opportunity to invest in augmented reality,” Miesnieks said of the new. “Our goal is to identify early-stage startups developing enabling platforms and provide them with necessary capital and mentorship. Our guiding light for our investment decisions is our proprietary industry roadmap we’ve developed from our combined domain expertise. The companies we select will be the early winning platforms in the next mega-wave of mobile disruption.”
