With the launch of Three One Zero’s anticipated space survival adventure, ADR1FT, edging ever closer on 28th March 2016, fans have been wondering about how they’ll be able to pick the title up and make sure that support for the Oculus Rift virtual reality (VR) head-mounted display (HMD) is included. The simplest answer, of course, would be to purchase the title from the Oculus Home store when it goes live next month, but what about those that pick it up through Steam or the recently announced Collector’s Edition? According to the studio, these people shouldn’t need to worry about getting VR support.
The developer explained as much in a recent blog post over on its official website. The team’s Adam Orth noted that they didn’t want people to pay for the videogame twice, adding: “Three One Zero would never do that as a business and we would never want that as consumers ourselves. We don’t believe in that as a financial model and it is against our core values as a developer and humans. Servicing the consumer is our #1 priority and we will take every effort to make our consumers happy, no matter what. The platform holders are working out solutions now to avoid this.”
The aim, then, is to offer redemption codes for the VR version to those that pick it up through outlets other can Oculus Home. Orth noted, however, that securing such codes was a challenge, and the developer was ‘working hard’ to come up with a way of getting them to customers. He also confirmed that, at this point in time, there are no plans to add SteamVR support to the title, ruling out compatibility with the HTC Vive. ADR1FT is not, however, ‘exclusive’ to the Oculus Rift in terms of VR support and the studio will be bringing it to other HMDs in the future. Hopefully the HTC Vive is among them. The version also on Oculus Home will also offer 2D support.
