Today marks the launch of the much anticipated expansion to Froniter Developments’ popular space simulation videogame, Elite: Dangerous, in Elite Dangerous: Horizons. The update kicks off a brand new season of content for the virtual reality (VR) compatible videogame, with some major new additions arriving. Some of those new features have been highlighted in a brand new launch trailer for the title, which can now be seen below.

The trailer is set to an iconic speech from former US President John F. Kennedy made on 12th September 1962. In that speech, Kennedy talks of the mission to the moon, while the trailer depicts a time when humanity has far surpassed that historic journey. It focuses on the surfaces of planets, which will be available to explore for the first time with the arrival of the update, allowing players to set down and commandeer new ground-based vehicles. All of this content will be compatible with VR head-mounted displays (HMDs) such as the HTC Vive and, pending an update, the Oculus Rift.

VRFocus will continue to follow Elite Dangerous: Horizons closely, reporting back with the latest updates on its progress.
