8i has become notably prolific in its virtual reality (VR) development, with experiences such as Gladiator and Message to the Future having put the company on the ‘volumetric VR’ map. The company has released its first public experience, downloadable for free.

Make VR Human is a compilation of 8i’s previous works. The title features digitised actors placed in a virtual environment. Using a VR head-mounted display (HMD) the viewer has control of both viewpoint and movement throughout these pre-recorded scenes.

“8i brings virtual experiences to life with the highest fidelity, most realistic volumetric video of humans,” reads the official description from 8i. “A truly immersive experience, volumetric VR gives you a sense of presence and freedom to move through space and time, opening up worlds of possibilities.”

8i announced the acquisition of £13.65m USD in funding last year and is currently hiring new talent. Make VR Human is available as a free download via Steam now, compatible with both Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. VRFocus will keep you updated with all the latest details on 8i’s work in VR.
