As videogames like Fantastic Contraption are already proving, virtual reality (VR) can bring a whole new dimension to user-generated content and videogames that specialise in it. Fans will no doubt be eager to see what the tech can do for Minecraft when it launches on the Gear VR and Oculus Rift head-mounted displays (HMDs) later this year. Until then, however, they may want to check out Chunks, a new experience from indie team Facepunch Studios which has just launched in Early Access with support for the HTC Vive.
Designed exclusively for HTC and Valve’s HMD, Chunks is described as a ‘block-based sandbox games’ in which players can build structures using the kit’s position-tracked controllers. You can also create roller coasters and even ride them from a first-person view. Anything you do make can be shared online via Steam Workshop. Facepunch Studios plans to keep the title in Early Access for around two to three months while it continues to optimise it.
Chunks can currently be picked up for the discounted price of £11.24 GBP before going back to its original tag of £14.99 on 18th April. Pricing is not expected to change for the full release. There’s currently no word on if the project could come to other HMDs such as the Oculus Rift later down the line.
