Nightdive Studios the indie studio that’s remaking classic 90’s title System Shock has today revealed new stretch goals for its Kickstarter crowd funding campaign. Of the new goals, right at the top of the list is virtual reality (VR) support for the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift head-mounted displays (HMDs).

The System Shock campaign has a couple of days to go and for VR support to happen Nightdive Studios is looking to hit a stretch goal of $3 million USD. The original Kickstarter goal was $900,000 and currently the total sits at $1,212,202 at the time of writing. It’s a big push to try to get almost $1.8 million in the next 48 hours, but Kickstarter campaigns have achieved surprising success close to the end.

The project launched on 28th June, but fellow developer Otherside Entertainment did tease VR support way before the campaign began. In December 2015 a dedicated website was setup with a link to sign up for promotions and updates. Following the link brought you to a System Shock newsletter page, which asked for users details along with a short 6 question survey. The sixth question asked: “On a scale of 1 (lowest) to 10 (highest), please rate your interest in virtual reality gaming?.” While VRFocus did surmise at the time that the developer could’ve been planning possible VR support, today that question has been answered.

System Shock is a complete remake of the defining classic from 1994, rebuilt with the Unity Engine. Players are trapped aboard Citadel Station as they fight to survive against cyborgs and mutated crew members corrupted by a maniacal A.I. known as SHODAN.

If System Shock hits its VR target VRFocus will let you know.
