At the start of March augmented reality (AR) company Meta released its next version of its AR head-mounted display (HMD) Meta 2. But prior to this, Meta Founder and CEO Meron Gribetz gave a preview of the new device to an audience at the TED conference in Vancouver, Canada during February. Today TED has released the full presentation for you to watch.
In the session Gribetz talks about extending our senses away from flat two dimensional screens like tablets and smartphones, and bringing interactive holograms into view so that users can move and interact in new ways.
Meta’s AR headset is tethered rather than wireless, like Microsoft’s HoloLens. It offers a 90-degree field of view (FoV) and 2560 x 1440 high-dpi display. There’s a 4 speaker near-ear audio system, sensor array for hand interactions and positional tracking, 6-axis inertial measurement unit, 720p front-facing camera and a 9 foot cable for video, data, power (HDMI Version 1.4b) as well as relevant software.
