Shooting enemies using a gamepad whilst in virtual reality (VR) doesn’t add to the immersive quality of the technology. Using a controller that is actually shaped like a gun aids in the feel and presence felt by the player, giving an improved experience. This is the theory behind gun peripherals like RAIL GUN from UzBrainnet which has launched a Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign this week.

The RAIL GUN is made up of five different components that attach to Airsoft guns to give first-person shooting (FPS) videogames that extra sense of realism. By attaching to an Airsoft gun players will be able to feel the real recoil and gunfire noises while playing their favourite FPS titles.

UzBrainnet’s FR™(Fast Rotation) Technology can track the pointing direction of the gun, allowing 180 or 360 degrees turning to be intuitive without the need for awkward and unnecessary motions that can make aiming more difficult. RAIL GUN is compatible with almost FPS games for PC, Xbox, PlayStation and the Oculus Rift head-mounted display (HMD).

The campaign is looking to raise $100,000 USD over the next month to fund the project. Reward tiers start at $150 USD and go up to $4260 USD, although the first tier has already sold out. UzBrainnet estimates delivery will be around March 2016.

VRFocus will continue to follow any further updates to the RAIL GUN funding campaign, reporting back with the latest announcements.
