In August 2015 developer Minority Media Inc. launched on Steam Early Access its dinosaur virtual reality (VR) adventure title Time Machine VR. The videogame supports both the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive head-mounted displays (HMDs) and next week it’ll be leaving Early Access and officially launching for the platforms.
Time Machine VR is a single-player, first-person exploration videogame where players are sent back in time to investigate the depths of the ancient oceans. You’re there to collect data on the sea-dwelling monsters of the past, but when a deadly prehistoric virus is unleashed on the modern world due to the melting ice caps you’re forced into a race against time to save humanity.
“As kids, we all dreamed of encountering a dinosaur,” said Minority CEO Vander Caballero. “So when VR came around three years ago and we started experimenting with it, we immediately remembered this dream. Once we started bringing the megalodon and other creatures back to life in VR, we couldn’t wrap our minds around how huge and real they looked! This is the kind of mind-blowing contact with prehistoric creatures that can only happen in VR.”
Featuring over 10 hours of gameplay, and a narrative written by Assassin’s Creed III and IV’s Jill Murray, Time Machine VR will launch for both HMDs on Thursday 19th May on Steam and Oculus Home, for $29.99 USD. But if you can’t wait that long head on over to the Early Access areas on either store to pick it up.
