THE VOID, a company that’s combining physical sets, real-time interactive effects, and virtual reality (VR) into one experience, has announced a collaboration today with Sony Pictures, Madame Tussauds New York and Ghost Corps on the creation of Ghostbusters: Dimension.

In what THE VOID calls a Hyper-Reality experience, visitors to Madame Tussauds New York will be able to dive into the Ghostbusters world using state-of-the-art technology, authentic props, costumes, a vehicle, gadgets and exclusive content. The attraction will allow attendees to experience what it is like to be a Ghostbuster, tracking and trapping a supernatural foe through a New York apartment complex.

“Ghostbusters has an incredible, passionate fan following, and now VR technology allows the fans to become a Ghostbuster themselves within Madame Tussauds New York. The technology is breathtaking, the experience is thrilling, and what better way is there to use VR, than to let audiences inhabit the stories they love,” said Ghostbusters creator Ivan Reitman.

The VR experience is scheduled to open on 1st July, 2016, shortly after the release of the next instalment of the Ghostbusters franchise which launches in cinemas on 15th July. This will be the first time THE VOID’s technology will be open to the public.

“We all had the same goal – to create the most authentic “Ghostbusters” experience possible. We’re using the same sounds, 3D models, and textures from the film to recreate a world where you’ll struggle to capture ghosts and cause an unbelievable amount of damage,” said Curtis Hickman, President of VOID Studios.

James Jensen, Chief Visionary Officer at THE VOID, added his enthusiasm for the project saying: “The Ghostbusters world is the perfect fit with THE VOID because we literally strap our RAPTURE vest and gun on you and they turn into your proton pack and proton gun. You become a Ghostbuster, investigating an apartment filled with ghosts in a three player adventure, where hopefully you won’t destroy New York City.”

There’s no indication if Ghostbusters: Dimension will be extended to other locations, but if any announcements are made VRFocus will bring you the details.
