2015 has been a big year for Cloudhead Games as it’s confirmed that the first episode of its upcoming virtual reality (VR) adventure series, The Gallery: Call of the Starseed, will be heading to the HTC Vive head-mounted display (HMD). The title has since been showcased at a handful of events utilising the device’s new Room Scale user-tracking features, made possible by Valve’s SteamVR system. Most recently it was seen at PAX Prime 2015 in Seattle, Washington for its first public showing. One fan that went to see the demo has even been lucky enough to win a consumer version of the HTC Vive.

Cloudhead Games confirmed as much in a recent blog update for the title. As the developer explained, those that tried The Gallery: Call of the Starseed at PAX Prime in August were given a promotional cassette tape. Side A consisted of a music track for the title, composed by Jeremy Soule, while Side B contained a message from Elsie, the twin sister of the protagonist in the title itself. Just as in the demo, players can listen to this message in which they are advised to call up the protagonist’s mother and sing happy birthday to her.

A fan by the name of Daniel was the first to do this, leaving the message that can be heard below. Doing so earned him a consumer version of the HTC Vive, which is set to release in a limited fashion towards the end of this year before seeing a wider rollout in 2016. Daniel also earned a t-shirt and a copy of The Gallery: Call of the Starseed. Meanwhile, another fan by the name of Taylor earned himself another t-shirt and a copy of the title for having what the developer described as a ‘terrifying rendition’ of Happy Birthday.

In fact, everyone that phoned in to wish a happy birthday will be getting a free copy of that first episode, and the developer advises players to keep hold of the cassette tapes in case they ‘come in handy’ in the future. VRFocus will continue to follow The Gallery: Call of the Starseed closely, reporting back with the latest updates on its progress.
