Frontier Developments has today announced the upcoming launch of the second content addition to Elite Dangerous: Horizons, known as The Engineers, on PC. Billed as the ‘biggest ever free update’, the announcement of The Engineers arrives alongside a permanent price drop for the Horizons expansion pack.

Elite Dangerous: Horizons is the current season pass for gameplay expansions to Elite Dangerous. The Engineers will offer new customisation options that change the way you fly, trade, explore and fight, Engineers hidden on planet surfaces across the galaxy and offering unique personalities and past experiences.

The Engineers will be available from 26th May 2016, featuring a new mission system, collectable loot and hundreds of gameplay additions and tweaks. However, from today, Elite Dangerous: Horizons for PC is available as an upgrade to Elite Dangerous for the new lower price of £19.99 GBP ($29.99 USD, €24.99 EUR, 1,489 RUB), and packaged within the Elite Dangerous Commander Deluxe Edition for £39.99 ($59.99, €49.99, 2,999 RUB), including eighteen unique paint jobs.

Elite Dangerous: Horizons is available with compatibility for both the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive now, and also on Xbox One. The launch of The Engineers will see both the console and PC versions of the videogame aligned to the same launch schedule from there-on-out.

Future gameplay updates for Elite Dangerous: Horizons will include multi-crew options, commander customisations and ship-launched fighters, allowing smaller short-range ships to engage in combat and defend their motherships.
