Good news Trekkies, Ubisoft has announced it’s working on a new Star Trek videogame that will be released for virtual reality (VR). Called Star Trek: Bridge Crew, the videogame was confirmed by the publisher on Twitter, where it was also revealed the title would be featured at Ubisoft’s E3 briefing on Monday, June 13.
The title is being developed by Red Storm Entertainment and according to a report from ABC, stars from various editions of Star Trek gathered to put on Oculus Rift headsets and film a promotional video for the videogame that will be shown at its E3 reveal.
The videogame will be an interactive four player experience set in the JJ Abrams version of the Star Trek universe and players will be able to take on the role of Captain, Engineer, Tactical Officer, or Helm Officer on the Aegis Starship. Once each player has chosen their role, they’ll all work together to complete missions that will be both story-focused and randomly generated. Players will have the freedom to approach missions how they see fit, whether that’s to go in all phasers blazing or to sit back and take time over a more methodical approach. According to Red Storm creative director, David Votypka, “The game is more about how you and your crew approach situations. It’s not binary. Is it more important to save the Vulcan scientists or rescue everyone on the planet? It might be too difficult to do both. It’s just like the show. There’s not any one right answer.”
Star Trek: Bridge Crew is set to launch in the Autumn for Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and Playstation VR.
