The annual Slamdance Film Festival in January is expanding its virtual reality (VR) section this year with the help of content creator Clever Fox and Littlstar. As part of the festival’s Digital, Interactive, & Gaming (DIG) program, VR content creators now have the opportunity to submit work through Littlstar.

Last year was the inaugural DIG. It featured ten immersive works across a wide range of disciplines and now Slamdance wishes to encourage more VR submissions into the fold. Immersive filmmakers have until 16th September 2016 to submit their work at littlstar.com/slamdance, to be part of the 2016 showcase which will open at Big Pictures Los Angeles 2nd – 11th December 2016. A selection of this work will be featured at The Slamdance Film Festival 20th – 26th January, 2017, and on Littlstar’s online, iOS, Android, VR and Apple TV apps.

“At Slamdance, we’re always about finding recognition for emerging artists and helping them get to the next level of their career,” said Slamdance president and co-founder Peter Baxter. “As a community we look to our alumni to help achieve this goal. It’s perfect for DIG to be able to do that with Dekker and his company, Clever Fox.”

“Immersive filmmaking is such a new medium that there are very few creative voices who get the opportunity to earn a living with their art,” commented Dekker Dreyer, chief creative officer, Clever Fox. “I think it’s vital that these artists are given the level of exposure needed to continue creating. DIG is in a unique position to bring talented new media creators together with both the audience and creative community that Slamdance has nurtured for over 20 years.
“At Clever Fox we’ve created VR projects for clients like Disney and Participant Media. I’m a Slamdance alumnus and I’ll absolutely be looking for new collaborators at DIG.”
